    Anne,

Congratulations on an amazing work that you, your sister and many writers are putting together. You and I can talk more offline, but I wanted you to know about a very special painter whom I think you’d be interested in.

His name is Joey Velasco, from the Philippines. Ever heard of him? He paints, with Jesus in the “now,” with regular ordinary people, of all walks of life. My two favorite paintings are: “I Will Never Leave” and “Table of Hope.” I don’t know how copyright rules work, but I think you’d be interested in both. Just Google his name; Paulist Press in the Philippines have been publishing the works as posters.

Let me know how this works out!
    Take care, God bless! Tobi

Several priests have made a very positive effect in my and my fainily’s life. Father Wilbur Thomas I went to when I was told I had cancer like my Mom, and Fr. Wilbur gave me a more thorough pray for health than just my cancer (which disappeared). When he came to our Annunciation Parish in Albemaarle, NC he was a breath of fresh air embodying Christ more than most priests. He was with us for too short a time though. Another priest is Fr. Ricardo Sanchez at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Candor. NC. He has been ill so I ask prayers for his health. He has many cultures at his church and makes them all feel at home and interact. I am thankful to know these most gifted of men.

The priest that has had the most profound influence on me since my conversion to the faith was Father Alex Kratz. He use to celebrate the young adult Holy hour at the former St. Michael’s in Southfield. Having gone to confession with him face to face many times after the Holy Hour he began to show me, through Christ, the tools, strength and love available to help me with forgiving my mother. He helped me to understand her position more through psychology and the Catholic faith, invoking the mantra that if you’ve never been shown love by a parent sometimes you don’t have the ability to love. Your soul is permanently scarred. By being put into her shoes, I found her less responsible for her actions but also realized that hatred and abuse can last for many generations if you don’t appeal to Christ for help. By talking with him, I understood that for my own soul to heal and for both my mom’s and my salvation I was commanded by God to forgive her. If I didn’t, I would be no better than her or the one that abused her, as before confession I was filled with terrible bitterness.

Now, that I’ve forgiven her and I’m working on the second step, Forgetting. Remembering what Father Kratz said helps me to imitate Christ everyday.

There have been so many wonderful priest in my life but my current pastor really calls us to holiness and to the use of all the treasures of the church. A friend just published a booklet, “Priest of God, Thank You!” that perfectly expresses my feelings about our wonderful priests. I will be giving the booklet to many of my priest friends. (Copies available for $5.00 at loveequalsaction@yahoo.com). I am also looking forward to acquiring your book of letters.
